California’s new SB 253 legislation introduces a comprehensive greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting regime that will require thousands of US companies to begin publicly disclosing their emissions in 2026, with obligations later extending to indirect (Scope 3) emissions and the need to obtain third‑party assurance on their data.
We teamed up with Corporate Disclosures to host a webinar on 11 March 2026, in which Lauren Bachtel, a partner from our New York office, joined the discussion to explain what SB 253 requires, how companies are preparing for compliance, and how emissions reporting can be used as a strategic tool.
