Global heads of state will meet in Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt on 6-18 November 2022 for COP27, the United Nations annual climate summit, to discuss more ambitious action to tackle climate change.
The world is a very different place now to what it was last year at COP26 – with geopolitical tensions and an energy crisis flowing from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February this year – and the economic turmoil that has ensued. Not surprisingly, energy security, climate finance for developing nations and a “just transition” are likely to be at the top of the agenda for world leaders this year.
The Linklaters ESG team will be following the negotiations closely and keeping you updated on developments during the summit, with a post-summit analysis of what this means in practice for corporates and the financial sector across the globe, via our new COP27 page.
