A significant settlement in a groundbreaking case results in climate pledge

A significant settlement in a groundbreaking case: REST Super (a leading Australian pensions fund) was alleged to have breached its duties by failing to do enough to manage the financial risks posed by climate change. As part of the settlement, REST has committed to implementing a strategy to achieve a "net zero" carbon footprint by 2050.

A $41 billion pension fund sued in Australia over its disclosure of climate change risks settled the lawsuit on Monday with a commitment to net zero emissions in its portfolio by 2050 -- a case that may spur more litigation around the world.
