Norwegian Supreme Court to hear Arctic Oil challenge - remotely - next month

The latest test of virtual hearings: next month, the full Norwegian Supreme Court will hear the appeal of a significant constitutional law challenge involving Arctic oil drilling.

On 4–12 November 2020, the Supreme Court in plenary session will hear the appeal from Nature and Youth Norway and Föreningen Greenpeace Norden versus the State represented by the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy in the so-called climate lawsuit. The Norwegian Society for the Conservation of Nature and The Grandparents Climate Campaign will act as third-party interveners for Nature and Youth Norway and Föreningen Greenpeace Norden. On 22 September 2020, the Chief Justice decided to conduct a remote hearing.
