EU launches Taxonomy Compass to help users navigate fiendishly complicated technical screening criteria

The EU has launched a new EU Taxonomy Compass to help users check which activities are included in the EU Taxonomy (i.e. "taxonomy-eligible activities"), to which objectives they substantially contribute, and what technical criteria they have to meet.

The Taxonomy Compass also aims to make it easier to integrate the criteria into business databases and other IT systems (see their download options).

You can access the Taxonomy Compass one of two ways:

  • Through the "EU Taxonomy Compass" tab - which displays the economic activities per environmental objective. The “E” or “T” icons indicate if the activity is an enabling or transitional activity.
  • Through the “Activities by sector” tab  - where you can check which economic activities for a given sector are taxonomy-relevant and view the technical screening criteria applicable to them.

For next steps on the Taxonomy Delegated Act containing the technical screening criteria for climate change, see our previous blog post

For more information on how the EU taxonomy works, see this blog post

The EU Taxonomy Compass aims to make the contents of the EU Taxonomy easier to access for a variety of users. It enables users to check which activities are included in the EU Taxonomy (taxonomy-eligible activities), to which objectives they substantially contribute and what criteria they have to meet.
